    About SELENE:

The book she is showcasing is…

    ABOUT THE BOOK

The tables are turned with a vengeance in this tour de force sequel to Melt. Now it’s Dorothy who is fragmented and lost, while Joey keeps the promise he made her to better himself – even though she’s gone. This time the stakes are even higher, as Joey forces himself to move forward while Dorothy is frozen in place. But when he learns of a devastating decision, Joey races to find her before it’s too late. Truth, consequence, repercussion and modern medicine collide as pieces converge in this psychological, thrilling story which begs the question: Can love really conquer all?

    BONUS MATERIAL ALERT!

    Hi Everyone,

I’m so excited to be sharing an excerpt from Unpunished: Book Three of The Rough Romance Trilogy, which is releasing this fall!

This concludes the treacherous journey of Joey and Dorothy, started in Melt and continued in Signs of Life. (My featured YASH book!)

    Happy hunting, and reading!

    Selene

    Dorothy

I wake up shrieking in the

    dark,

    trapped inside myself.

    Buried alive inside my own

    flesh,

    my body is my

    coffin.

Help! Help! The terror burns through me like I’m tied to a fiery pyre.

    Maybe this time I’ll

    die.

    Maybe this day,

    I’ll die.

    Please,

    let me die.

    Joey

I wake up in the dark. Black out curtains, blacked-out mind. All this blocking, still no relief. The bright, shining pain, it sears right though. Here comes the sun.

I clamp my eyelids, squeezing every bit of defiance I can muster. I bury my head in the cheap feather pillow, the untrimmed ends stab my face.

Twisted in my sweat sheets, wound up like a tangled yo-yo no one wants, I think of her name. Why does love rip through us so much, isn’t it supposed to heal? Pleas spew from my mouth.

“Come back. Come back, Doll. Please.”

    Dorothy

    If I can’t hate him,

    I need to

    unlove him.

    Just turn it

    off.

    Transition my emotions.

They need an operation for that.

    Joey

I wonder if I’m being punished for being so selfish. For wanting her to stay.

Or maybe I’m unpunished. Maybe that’s the problem.

    Pop

I woke up seeing red, big bolts of red zigging through my skull, flashing through my mind, zapping me with pain. I thought: I’m dead. This is hell. And I laughed because it would be so perfect for me to be in hell, I couldn’t argue the placement. But laughing made the red bolts zing harder, and I shut up real fast.  I lay there for awhile, trying to think past the pain, wondering if this was all that I was gonna get for eternity. God, I needed a shot of Jack.  Death was bullshit!

    Joey

I guess it’s true that you can block trauma completely from your mind, because it had been gone until that moment. Why couldn’t I keep it gone? What was it about me that insisted to remember? Because faced with this knowledge I had to do something.

    Pop

What did they have on me anyway? His word, that I was gonna kill him? He’s the convicted felon, I’m the cop — remember?

    Dorothy’s Dad

    We killed her.

Oh God did we kill her?

    Dorothy

    The same words

    rang over and

    over in my

    head as I came

    back and

    opened my eyes.

    “No good deed goes unpunished.”

    That was awesome, right?!

    1. Alisa Harrison says:

My favorite part about spring is growing flowers (especially tomatoes) and starting my own personal green house. Except I really hate allergies but there has to be some downsides to spring.

    2. Ariana says:

My favorite thing about spring is spring break. Because of no school. I also love spring because i am able to relax reading books while feeling the wind in my hair. While listening to kpop, I am not sure why but it eliminates the sounds like piano music. And if I like the song a lot, I’ll dance. So either way, I get into a happy mood for spring.

    3. Natalie says:

Favourite thing about spring is that I get to enjoy some beautiful weather and there’s plenty of rainy days for curling up and reading a book ;D

    4. Tashia Jennings says:

Love how March seems to brings winds that sweep out winter to welcome spring. Spring is all about rebirth. The blooms, new leaves, the fresh air. That and I love fishing!!
Thank you for this wonderful chance!

    5. Regina says:

My favorite thing about spring is the warmer weather and that smorgasburg is finally back open on Sundays by me.

    6. Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature) says:

My favorite thing is when the weather is warm enough you no longer need to wear a coat, but it’s not so hot that you’re all sweaty.

    7. Amber C says:

My favorite thing about Spring is listening to the birds twittering in the trees and feeling the cool morning breezes as they rustle the newly emerged leaves.

    8. Nellie Boyer says:

My favorite thing about spring is getting to go outside and enjoy the weather warming up or to hear the spring rains while reading a good book

    9. Nicole Buchholz says:

My favorite thing about Spring is storms (certified storm chaser here) and still cool weather. I live in Florida, so we’ll take any break from the heat while we can get it!

    10. Jen says:

My favorite thing is that it is the start of tball and baseball season. I’m not a fan of baseball ironically, but I love watching how much joy my boys get from playing their favorite sport ever.

    11. Katherine Paschal says:

I love spring because of the Scavenger Hunt!… and rainstorms with thunder and lightning. Thanks 🙂

    12. Bethany Farwell says:

I’ll have to say that my favorite part of spring is the feeling of awakening. A new dawn arising with so much potential. <3

THE LANTERNS EMBER's cover IS GORGEOUS! But i'm sure I've already said that on some social media platform lol I don't know what I'm more excited for.. the release of this book, or when my Tigers dream gets delivered!!! ( biting nails already)

    13. Debi says:

My favorite thing about Spring is several things, but I think my absolute number one thing is the tree blossoms. I going to the Japanese Garden in Portland, OR and just sitting among the cherry and plum blossoms. It’s like my own little piece of heaven.

    14. Ali Goff says:

My favorite thing about spring would have to be the rain. It always smells so nice when it rains in the spring.

    15. Alizabeth Baughman says:

Spring is a wonderfully warm and optimistic time of the year, we’ve finally overcome the cold and snow and can focus on a more relaxing and inviting season. I love the freedom and rebirth that comes with spring. It’s beautiful.

    16. Stephanie Raines says:

      Good morning Colleen!

My favorite thing about Spring is the thing most loathe in the Southern states – the weather! Our weather ranges from perfect one day to 90 degrees the next and after a glorious storm that night 43 degrees the next. We go from being in the pool to donning jackets and long pants the next. I love the bipolarness of Spring.

      Thanks for participating!

    17. Angie says:

Cherry Blossoms! Very short lived but they are beautiful at peak bloom right now at the Tidal Basin. They will be at peak through this Sunday <3

    18. Stephanie Plotkin (TeacherofYA) says:

My favorite thing about Spring? SNOW IS SUPPOSED TO MELT!! However, in Michigan here, we just got snow the other day. So spring isn’t going so great in my state! 😂
My other fave thing? New Spring releases! Excited about The Lantern’s Ember!! Yay YASH! I love doing this twice a year. ☺️

    19. Ashley says:

My favourite thing about spring is the warm weather without the bugs! It’s like all the best parts of summer without the bad ones. Plus you get all sorts of weather – sun, rain, snow, wind, EVERYTHING <3

    20. Claire Ladawn says:

I love the warm weather starting up! The cold bothers my skin, so I get beyond excited when it warms up.

    21. Shannon Fay says:

well see, i live in Boston, so I would definitely have to say warmth. Thawing out is nice, specially cuz i take public transit, and there isn’t much that’s LESS FUN than waiting for a bus in the freezing cold wind. Sadly, winter is straggling something fierce. It’s april 7th, and we even got snow this morning. what?

    22. Laura says:

My favorite thing about spring is how everything seems to be on the verge of beginning….the air is getting warmer, plants are pushing their way through the soil, birds that flew south for the winter are being seen in the area again. Thank you for all your hard work in compiling YASH. Awesome job!

    23. Artemis Giote says:

I love the way everything looks so green and fresh and vibrant as the world comes alive around us.

But most of all, I love the flowers!
