Snakes have been in religion, mythology, and history since time began. Adam and Eve is the first story we know of where a snake is present in the Garden of Eden. In Genesis 3 we read about how Eve was tempted by the serpent who felt that the forbidden tree wouldn’t kill Eve but would open her eyes and be as a god knowing good and evil. The love story of the Lion and the Unicorn
Love story? Aren’t the Lion and the Unicorn only unified on the English coat of arms in 1603? Well Colleen’s imagination created a devoted couple out of the below unification. In 1603 when Scotland’s King James VI became James I of England unifying the Scottish and English kingdom. The unified countries required a new royal coat of arms combining England’s lion and Scotland’s unicorns. Note the poem of this union. Charon the grumpy Ferryman
Charon or Kharon is the ferryman of Hades who ferries the newly deceased souls across the rivers Styx and Acheron which divide the world of the living from the world of the dead. To pay for the passage you need a coin to pay Charon. Normally an obolus or danake was placed in or on the mouth of the dead person to pay for this passage. Minotaurs: Punishment from Poseidon
The origin story of the Minotaur is one of punishment given by the god Poseidon to the disobedient King Minos of Crete. King Minos sacrificed his most prized bull each year to Poseidon, but one year a calf was born that was so exquisite he chose to sacrifice a lesser bull in order to save the prized one for himself. Poseidon was not fooled by the immolated calf, and punished King Minos by his wife, the queen gave birth to a half human half bull child. Since King Minos we have seen Minotaur in movies and books. The Crocodile Temple of Kom Ombo
-before reconstruction The temple of Kom Ombo is an unusual double temple in Kom Ombo in Upper Egypt. It was constructed during the Ptolemaic dynasty by Ptolemy VI Philometor (180-145BC) and it was added to by each new Ptolmy. During the Roman period even more additions. The building is special because it built for two triads of deities. There were two halls, courts, even sanctuaries and rooms for each god.
