Movie Review: The Legend of Hercules
Colleen’s Movie Review
Romance: Okay. Kellan Lutz provided some good steam and I liked the characters together but there really weren’t enough romantic scenes to make me happy.
Special Effects: Kind of a PG13 version of 300. Lots of cool frozen rain shots or giant leaps in the air with the camera swirling around. The Nemean lion was just not believable as either a lion or a monster.
What I Liked: The lighting whip when Zeus struck the sword of Hercules. The scenery was beautiful. Kellan Lutz. Costumes. Oh and the girl’s golden hair clippies.
What I’d Change: Too many fight scenes. Not enough meaningful dialogue. I would have liked seeing Hercules growing up and seeing his relationship develop with his brother. Not enough time spent in developing his Herculean skills. The ending was a bit incongruous with the foreshadowing. Also not nearly enough kissing.
Hunky Hero: I was very happy with Kellan’s hunkability factor. I liked him in Twilight but I really liked him in this. I thought he carried the movie well and would love to see him in something else. That’s a man with potential.
The Villain: I found the father way creepier than the son. He wasn’t a bad villain but not enough conflict between him and the hero to make his defeat seem meaningful to me.
Best Scene: My favorite part was watching Hercules whip the lightning sword. Also any time Hercules wasn’t wearing a shirt was very enjoyable, which was pretty much the entire movie.
Recommended for YA fans: Yes. If you are a movie fan with not much else to do and you like hunky guys without shirts.

Grandma’s Review
Grandma’s Bio: My name is Kathleen and I’m Colleen’s mom. I’m a mother of seven and grandmother of seventeen with one bun in the oven (not my oven). They’re all great. None of my kids are duds-you know, like the popcorn kernels that don’t pop. My father taught me to love science fiction and mysteries. I’m a dreamer whose secret wish was to be an actress and sing and dance on stage. I have lots of things I still want to do. A few of my favorite things include-discovering new restaurants, going to movies, traveling, seeing plays, children, my dogs, Elvis, reading books, The Beach Boys, and Rhett Butler because he doesn’t give a damn AND he can carry Scarlett up the stairs.
Definition of Kicky-providing a kick or thrill, exciting
Review: I like movies. I really like movies. I will go to most any movie just for the experience it offers. The Legend of Hercules kept me awake. I enjoyed the adventure, but the story was lacking. I would have liked to see Zeus at some point. Many things were unbelievable. The visual effects could have been better. The love scene with the floating curtains and the white floor fluff did not do much for me. (What was it anyway?) I thought Hercules was great eye candy, even for a grandmother. Keep trying Hollywood, perhaps the next one will be better. I give this movie 5 kicks out of 10.

A Guy’s Perspective
Bio: I’m Colleen’s husband, Brad. I’m the youngest of four kids. I’ve been Deaf since I was five so I watch every movie with caption glasses. I love sports and reading (I’ll admit I’ve read Twilight but prefer thrillers like Jack Reacher). My favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip. I’ll never turn down a taco. I write poetry. My man credentials include: a high school career in wrestling, watching sports every time my wife is too busy to notice, a receding hairline, two repaired ACL’s, and a stockpile of Axe body wash.
Review: I think it is safe to say the Greek Gods would be displeased with The Legend of Hercules. I wasn’t exactly enamored by the storyline and the bloodless action was somewhat underwhelming. The stoic Kellan carried the movie adequately, mostly with his warrior stunts, six-pack, and trunk-like biceps, though not so much with his acting chops. Every great hero needs a great villain, like Loki to his brother Thor, but the film’s villain, Iphicles, Hercules’ traitorous sibling, was rather pathetic. The continual action did keep me interested and I wanted to know more about the characters. I would give it 4 Hulk Smash Fists out of 10.
