Crazy Week in New York
Originally written in November 2010 by Colleen Houck Hello Everybody,I just got back from my prepublication tour. Some of you have wondered what that is so I’ll tell you. It’s an opportunity for me to meet with librarians, bookstore owners, and events coordinators before an actual tour happens. We can plan fun events together and they can get to know me a little bit before the frenzy of a tour. A local picks me up at the airport, drives me to different venues, makes introductions, and gives me advice on what’s going on in the local book world. This person …
Publishing with Sterling
Originally written on October 21, 2010 by Colleen Houck THIS IS IT! The big announcement you’ve all been waiting for went out this morning at 8:00 am Pacific Time. You can read the announcement here but I’ll sum it up for you too and give you the highlights. My new publisher, which some of you have already figured out, is Sterling. They are primarily known for producing fabulous children’s books but they have a risk taker at the helm named Marcus and a while ago he encouraged his employees to start thinking bigger. They decided that they wanted to expand and begin …
In The Doghouse
Originally written on October 6, 2010 by Colleen Houck Both Ren and Kishan are great gift givers but I think the worst gift stories would be more interesting. If you haven’t seen “In the Doghouse” you should watch it. Some of you already know my Christmas present story but I’ll share mine again. We were snowed in a year ago or so and could only make it to Costco for our Christmas shopping. I, of course, didn’t need to do much since all my shopping is done online now except for stocking stuffers. Brad hadn’t done anything so he took …
A Tiger’s Experience
Originally written on October 1, 2010 by Colleen Houck Going from a self-published book to a traditionally published one is an interesting and sometimes crazy experience. It’s a bit surreal seeing something you’ve created plucked apart, polished, and put back together again in a tighter, more compact frame, but I expected that. What I didn’t expect was the extensive team of experts who have all invested their time, energy, and mental focus on only me and my series. If you’ve read the Hunger Games series, you will remember Katniss and her team of experts that made her costumes, organized her …
Writer’s Workshops
Originally written on August 10, 2010 by Colleen Houck Hi Everyone, This week was crazy and fun. I attended the Willamette Writer’s Conference and met my agent, Alex, for the first time. We visited for just a few minutes then went into a workshop where we presented together along with my movie producer, Raffi. It was a half an hour panel so we only had time for a brief introduction from each of us and then answered a couple of questions. Most of the attendees were unpublished writers who came to the conference seeking representation. Several film producers and agents …

Very, Very Good News – Very, Very Bad News
Originally written on May 18, 2010 by Colleen Houck Hi Everybody, I have very very good news and very very bad news. I’ll go with semi-bad news first. There will not be a tiger expert with a tiger coming to the Tiger Tour after all. Hopefully, you’ll all still come out and hang out with me and eat BBQ and chocolate cake. We’ll be doing lots of giveaways through the day and will still have lots of fun. Now for the very very good news. I have an agent! Whoo Hoo! He’s a great guy who works for Trident Media …
